Academic Star is unlike most other tutoring centers; there are no application fees, no assessment test fees, no group tutoring, and no long-term contracts. Our commitment is to provide the best quality education and service to our students at a very low, affordable rate. Our goal is to help students improve their grades immediately, so we use the private tutoring sessions to focus on helping the students with their current schoolwork - homework, preparing for exams, and projects.

A student that is struggling needs to be given special attention. Placing a struggling student in a group with four to eight other students, like other tutoring centers do, does not provide that student with the individual attention that he or she needs. Particularly when a group environment is not much different than the one provided at school. Our private sessions allow the tutor to explain the material, work out examples, answer any clarification questions, and observe the student completing exercises on their own. When needed, we provide supplemental material and assign extra problems for students to work on both during the tutoring sessions and at home to fill any gaps that have not allowed them to perform successfully at their current level. While we focus on the subjects that are giving a student the most difficulty, we also empower the students by teaching and reinforcing all the necessary study skills - organizational, listening, note-taking, and test-taking skills - for success. Academic Star also provides each student with a free diagnostic test and/or subject specific assessment test enabling us to determine each student's strengths and weaknesses. However, there are many factors contributing to a student's academic performance, only some of which can be identified by a test. Therefore, it is our promise to provide each student with the individual attention, dedication, consideration, and positive reinforcement that they deserve.
